Where to Begin

With so many factors to consider – climate change, economic viability, financial feasibility, community resilience and more – finding an actionable and clear path forward can be a challenge to any private or municipal forest steward.

Fortunately, there are many resources available to help guide you through the decision making process, and to provide you with access to financial and technical resources that can support your goals. The Forest Climate Resilience Program provides a roadmap for initiatives in the cities and towns of Massachusetts and can help municipal landowners plan projects, connect communities, implement plans and monitor outcomes. Municipalities may also be exploring carbon programs and markets for additional income, and the Municipal Forest Carbon information can provide guidance.

Private landowners may have similar goals, but have different and equally helpful resources available. For instance, service foresters in Massachusetts can discuss your stewardship goals, including any specific goals you may have for climate and wildlife, and help introduce you to funding and other resources that can help you get started.
