Funding Opportunity

Woodlands Partnership Implementation Grants – Offered by Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs (EOEEA)

Summary: Municipalities that have joined the Woodlands Partnership of Northwest Massachusetts (established as Mohawk Trail Woodlands Partnership in 2018 state law) may apply for funding to implement projects that further at least one of two goals: 1) increase economic development related to sustainable forestry and natural resource-based tourism within the municipalities and 2) increase forest conservation and sustainable forestry on private and municipal lands.
Funding Focus: Awarded annually since 2020, this grant focuses on a wide variety of projects that advance the mission of the Woodlands Partnership, including natural resource-based economic development (tourism, recreation), conservation, sustainable forestry on private and town-owned lands, and municipal needs related to these activities or to addressing climate change. Details may vary annually, but in recent rounds, towns could receive grants of up to $25,000, while regional planning agencies, other organizations working in the 21-town Partnership region or multi-town projects could seek grants of up to $75,000. Applications from municipalities in the Western Franklin and Northern Berkshire County region will be considered as long as the vote to join the Partnership (at Select Board or Town Meeting) is on, or before, the date of signing an awarded grant contract with EOEEA.
