Greening the Gateway Cities Program (GGCP)

Summary: DCR Urban and Community Forestry Greening the Gateway Cities Program is designed to reduce household heating and cooling energy use by increasing tree canopy cover in urban residential areas.
Funding Focus: A healthy urban forest ecosystem improves the quality of the water we drink, the air we breathe, the stability of our neighborhoods, and our sense of community and individual pride. Financial assistance to municipalities and non-profits for activities that support urban tree planting in coordination with the GGCP and the DCR Urban and Community Forestry program is available, through 3 different grants, each with different goals and in different amounts. These grants are awarded on a reimbursement basis. – Municipal Partnership Grant: Gateway City municipalities where DCR is planting. These grants support municipalities as they identify and prepare urban areas for tree planting in coordination with DCR. Maximum award: $30,000. – Non-Profit Partnership Grant: Qualified non-profit 501(c)3 organizations. These grants support non-profits in their work to communicate GGCP objectives, raise awareness of the benefits of urban trees, and encourage residents to participate in tree planting. Maximum award: $20,000. – Tree Planting Implementation Grant: Gateway City municipalities and qualified non-profit 501(c)3 organizations. These grants will support tree planting and related activities that have a measurable impact on the urban canopy in Gateway Cities. Maximum award: $100,000.
